Impact Aerobics Classes

Become healthy & fit by joining an exercise or low impact aerobics class at the Senior Center. All classes are instructed by a certified instructor from Southeastern Med. Classes are held each Monday & Thursday at the GCSCC from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM. The cost of the class is $8.00 a month. Malabar Farms & Grist Mill Tour

Friday, May 2nd

Travel with the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center to Malabar Farms for a tour of the Bromfield’s Country Home & Malabar Farm Visitors Center. This trip will depart the Senior Center on Friday, May 2nd 2008 at 8: 15 AM. Malabar Farm is the former residence of local hero Louis Bromfeild, a Pulitizer Prize winning author who had all 30 of his novels make the best –seller list. The second stop will be the Pine Run/ Wolf Creek Grist Mill which is one of the oldest working mills in existence. Next we will enjoy a scenic drive through Mohican State Park. Lunch will be at Raders Resteraunt noted for there “Homemade Pies”. They also offer a Seafood Buffet on Fridays and the cost is $8.99 a person or you may order from the regular menu. Spring Floral Arrangement Class—Monday, May 5th

Diana Loy will instruct a floral arrangement class on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. To participate in the class you will need to bring a vase or basket and a pair of wire cutters, the flowers will be provided. The cost for the class is $3.00 a person. GCSCC Clothes Closet Available For Seniors Notice: New Hours for Clothes Closet

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center maintains a clothes closet especially for senior citizens. If you are a senior citizen and in need of clothes for your wardrobe we are certain our gracious and hospitable Clothes Closet Volunteer, Shirley will gladly assist you. The clothes closet is available on Mondays from 11:00 AM11:30 AM instead of Wednesday’s effective Monday, May 5th 2008 through October 2008.  To inquire about making a donation to our clothes closet, please contact the Senior Center at (740) 439-6681.

Monday Night Line Dancing Classes offered at the GCSCC

Connie Walters instructs Line Dancing Classes on Monday evenings at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. The beginner’s class is held at 5:30 PM, and the regular class starts at 6:00 PM. Two Square Dances in May

Come join the fun by attending a square dance at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. The first dance will be held on Tuesday, May 6th and the entertainment for the evening will be the Pleasant Valley Boys this will be a concession night. The second square dance will be held Tuesday, May 20th and the Ohio Swing Band will provide the entertainment for the evening, this will be a snack night. All square dances are open to the public and begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is $3.00 per person. Hope to see you there!

Quilters Welcome

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center Quilt Ladies cordially invite’s anyone who enjoys quilting and stitching to join the quilters on Tuesdays from 8:30 AM– 3:00 PM for a fun day of quilting. Weekly Blood Pressure & Health Checks At GCSCC

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center offers Blood Pressure, Pulse and Weight Checks on Wednesday’s from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. Health Screenings are provided by local trained and state certified health care professionals and community partners. We encourage seniors to utilize this beneficial health service program, which is also easily accessible and convienient. Routine health check-ups are available, walk-ins and no prior appointments are necessary! This is a great way to keep yourself healthy and improve your overall well-being. Mother’s Day “Cameo” Luncheon

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center cordially invites you to attend our annual Mothers Day Luncheon on Friday May 9th, 2008 at 11:00 AM. In celebration of Mother’s Day we’re encouraging all mom’s, adopted mother’s, and mother figures-in-our lives to please join us in sharing a photo or special story about a favorite Cameo or necklace perhaps your mother gave to you and why it may be special to you. This special luncheon will begin at 11:00 AM and lunch will be served at 11:30 AM. The luncheon menu will include; Breaded Chicken Breast, Buttered Potatoes, Baby Glazed Carrots, Strawberry Glazed Bananas, Dinner Roll & Butter, Ice Tea, Water, Coffee, and Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing for Dessert. Insurance Help is Available for Seniors at the GCSCC

If you need assistance or have questions about your insurance statements or bills, Tom Tipton from Southeastern Med can help you. Tom graciously visits the Senior Center on the second Monday of each month from 9:00 AM -11:00 AM to assist you with your questions and concerns. No appointment is necessary, but you may make one if you choose by calling the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center at (740) 439-6681.Walk-ins are welcomed.

 

 

Red Hat Lady Divas Luncheon

May, 12th

The Red Hat Lady Divas will meet at the Senior Center on Monday, May 12th 2008 at 10:45AM. The group will travel to Zanesville where they’ll enjoy lunch and dine at The Tumbleweed Restaurant. Lunch will be on your own. If you would like to be a driver or if you need a ride, please call the Senior Center to make your reservation and let us know well in advance. Alzheimer’s Support Group Host Meeting at GCSCC May, 13th

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 PM at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. We invite you to attend this support group meeting, where you will learn valuable coping skills; have the opportunity to share your own personal experiences with others who take care of / or are living with someone who has Alzheimer’s. Please plan to join us for the Annual Senior Citizen’s Day Luncheon, which will be held on Wednesday, May 14th 2008 at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. The Administration & Staff of the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center cordially invites you to attend the 2008 Senior Citizen’s Day Luncheon in celebration of older Americans Month as together we will express our thanks and share special recognition to the vital role that senior citizens serve in our daily lives and in our communities. Please be sure to mark your calendars to attend the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Day Luncheon on Wednesday May 14th 2008 in celebration of Older Americans Month. Advance reservations and tickets are required.  Tickets are “by donation” for any senior citizen age 60 & better. This is always a special day when we take pause to recognize and thank the many senior citizens who have made a positive impact in our programs, services, facilities, and in our community. We will have a Balloon Launch, present 2008 Angel of Seniors Awards, and be entertained by well-known professional comedy magician and inspirational speaker Dave Lehman, as well as give away lots and lots of door prizes! This special event will begin with welcomes and introductions at 11:15 AM, presentation of awards, followed by an invocation and served luncheon. At the conclusion of the luncheon we will be entertained by Guest Speaker Dave Lehman and conclude the day’s events by awarding numerous donated door prizes and gifts. Food Commodity Pick- Up Friday May 16th

Senior Supplemental Food Commodity Distribution will be Friday May, 16th 2008 at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. It’s very important to pick up your commodities on the scheduled date, as our storage is limited. If you are unable to pick-up your commodities on time we ask that you please notify the GCSCC at (740) 439-6681 to make alternate arrangements. Friendly Reminder: if you do not pick up your food commodities two consecutive times you may be taken off the program. If at anytime you decide you don’t need or don’t want to continue participating in the food commodity program, please call Sue Armbruster at (740) 432-3838.

 

Free Blood Sugar & Wellness Checks At GCSC May 19th

The Guernsey County Senior Center will host Blood Sugar & Wellness Checks on Monday May, 19th from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM in the living room. If you would like to have your blood sugar checked, please call the senior center and make an appointment. These health checks will consist of Blood Sugar Screening, Pulse, and Weight Checks. A trained and certified Licensed Nurse will provide these tests. To participate in the blood sugar test you will need to fast so that the test will be accurate. After you are finished with your health check you may join us in our dinning room for a delicious Breakfast Buffet which begins at 9:00 AM. The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center invites you to attend the monthly senior dinner at the Byesville Satellite Site on Wednesday, May 28th from 4:00 PM- 6:00 PM. The menu will include; Baked Pork Chops, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, Pears, Dinner Roll & Butter, Frosted Jell-O Dessert, Coffee, & Punch. For your convenience, the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center’s Transportation Department will be providing transportation to and from this event. Executive Director Offers a Special Surprise Treat For Senior Citizens During Older Americans Month

Each year for the last seven years Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center Executive Director, Shon Gress has treated our daily visitors to a “surprise treat” during Older Americans Month. Because it is a “surprise” seniors will not know exactly when they will be treated to a surprise treat…so—you will just have to visit us everyday here at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center or at our Byesville Satellite Site throughout the month of May to discover exactly what & when your special treat will be! One thing is for certain though...during the month of May in celebration of “Older Americans Month…when you least expect it …we will graciously and willingly share a special treat with every senior who attends or visits the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center on that particular day! It’s just our way of saying “thank you” to the many senior citizens who visit us here at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center each and every day.  To receive your “special treat” all that you need to do is “be present” on the surprise day! We cordially invite you to visit the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center or our Byesville Site every weekday, especially throughout the month of May. There are no rain checks and you must be in attendance for lunch in order to receive your complimentary surprise treat!

 

2008 Annual Senior Picnic

“Older Americans Month”

Concludes with Covered Dish Picnic for Senior’s at Byesville City Park Friday June 6th

To officially close “Older Americans Month” we will be hosting a fun-day in Byesville, Ohio for senior citizens who live and reside in Guernsey County. Come enjoy a “carry in” covered dish luncheon, entertainment, and door prizes. The event will begin at 10:00 AM with entertainment and lunch will be served at 11:30 AM with door prizes to follow. The Senior Center will be providing Sloppy Joe, Hot Dog (Coney Dog); and Chicken Sandwiches, Tableware, Beverages, and Condiments. Seniors are encouraged to bring a favorite covered dish or dessert. We cordially invite you to join us at the Byesville City Park-Large Pavilion as we say good-bye to our month long celebration of Older American’s Month. This is a great time to socialize, enjoy the outdoors, and share the flavors of some delectable casserole dishes and desserts. There will be door prizes and entertainment too! Donations to assist us with meeting the financial costs of hosting such an event are also most welcomed and appreciated. Lending Closet Available For Senior Citizens at the GCSCC

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens offers assistive medical equipment on an “as needed” on loan basis. For a complete listing of available medical equipment and or/home health assistive devices, please stop by the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, weekdays (Monday-Friday) 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM or by telephoning us at (740) 439-6681; toll free 1-866-534-2349. We have three electric scooters we’ve recently added to our inventory of equipment. If you are in need of a scooter please contact as soon!

Legal Consultation & Assistance for Senior Citizens

Do you need your will revised & updated? If you need help composing a legal will, or perhaps you need to update your last will & testament… no matter what your non-criminal legal issues might be-we can help! The Guernsey County Senior Center will gladly assist you with Title III Legal Assistance of a non –criminal nature costing up to $250 per person per year. Services and appointments are arranged by our staff and are provided by licensed local attorney’s for your personal convince. We will also provide needed transportation to and from the attorney’s office if required or requested. Ensure® & Glucerna® Supplemental Beverage’s Available for Seniors at a New Reduced Price

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center offers supplemental nutritional beverage shakes which can assist in sustaining your nutritional well-being, especially among cancer patients who find it difficult to digest and “keep down” regular foods. Each comes in three great flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. A case of Ensure cost’s $20.00 per case for regular, and $22.00 for the plus.  Diabetic Glucerna cost $38.00 per case. To order your Ensure or Glucerna Beverage, please contact Sue Armbruster at (740) 432-3838. In some circumstances please allow three days for delivery. To find out if these beverages are right for you, always remember to first consult your physician to determine if these nutritional beverages are beneficial to your dietary and nutritional needs.

 

Transportation Services Available for Senior Citizens

Donations are Welcomed & Appreciated

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center provides prompt, courteous and economical senior transportation services on a “donation only “ basis to senior citizens age 60 and older, who require transportation to and from medical appointments; to pick up prescriptions; to and from congregate sites including the senior citizens center and prioritized locations throughout the county. We please ask that all customers utilizing our transportation services please remember our transportation department when making daily or routine donations and contributions to the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. We please ask for your personal understanding and support while we strive to continue providing much needed services for older adults and operate a cost efficient transportation program.  Recommended transportation donations are $2.00 per trip. We sincerely appreciate your generosity. Donations can be made payable to the Senior Transportation Department to help with the costs and expenses associated with financially sustaining this important and much utilized program. Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center’s Transportation Department is dedicated to transporting & serving seniors living throughout all of Guernsey County.

 

Pennies from Heaven Fundraiser

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center is hosting a coin collection fundraiser. We are collecting all unused (and those that might be stored away) pennies that you don’t mind sharing & donating to assist us with financing a special project here at the Senior Center. If you have any loose pennies laying around that you would like to donate to us, please bring them in & toss them in our project collection jars. We will be collecting pennies throughout the year! All proceeds will benefit a project to help purchase some much needed furniture and other items for the living room here at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, Inc~ Thank You for your donations- We genuinely appreciate your support!

 

Home Delivered Meals Available for Guernsey County Senior Citizens Age 60 & Older

This spring let us do your personal cooking and meal preparation for you! If you are 60 years of age or older, living in Guernsey County and/are experiencing difficulty with preparing or cooking your own meals and /or are interested in receiving a home delivered meal, please call (740) 439-5717 or toll-free at 1-866-534-2349.Our kind and courteous associates will come and visit with you (in the comfort of your own home) to conduct a brief in-home assessment of your nutritional needs to determine your personal dietary needs and overall program eligibility. Program Eligibility is not based on your income. Home Delivered Meals are intended for those with moderate to severe nutritional needs; have difficulty cooking or preparing their own meals; and are physically unable or have limited means of sustaining their individual nutritional health & well-being. To arrange for hot nutritious, well-balanced meals to be delivered directly to the comfort of your own home anywhere in Guernsey County, please contact the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center’s Nutrition Department and ask about receiving Home Delivered “Meals on Wheels” in your home. Meals are provided on a “donation only” basis to senior citizens age 60 and older. Recommended donation is $2.50 per meal per day. Also, senior citizens will not be denied a meal based on their ability or inability to make a donation. Call (740) 439-5717 today...Our staff is willing and waiting to serve you.

The Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center Craft Ladies will be making beautiful greeting cards to send to our Military men & women to express their appreciation and support.
